Frequently Asked Questions

General Questions

What is Lab Wizard and who uses it?
Lab Wizard is a purpose-built Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) for metal finishing and plating shops of any size from small job shops to global aerospace facilities. It automates chemical bath control, lab scheduling, data logging and SPC reporting, so teams can eliminate manual spreadsheets, reduce scrap, and maintain full process traceability.
How do I get started?
Getting started is easy! Simply email

support@lab-wizard.com and let us know which version you would like to try and our team will work to get you set up quickly.

What are the pricing options for Lab Wizard Cloud?
Lab Wizard Cloud pricing scales with your shop’s usage patterns and required feature set (users, tanks, alerts, modules, etc.). To determine your expected usage and cost, please contact our sales team at

sales@lab-wizard.com and we’ll work with you to tailor the right plan.

How is Lab Wizard Desktop priced?
Lab Wizard Desktop is available in multiple configurations ranging from basic LIMS functionality to bundles with our Remote Console and advanced add-on modules such as dashboards. For pricing details for the features needed in your lab environment, please contact our sales team at

sales@lab-wizard.com.

How does Lab Wizard help me manage my tank concentrations?
You define each bath’s chemistry components, formulas, specification range, and desired analysis frequency and Lab Wizard automatically schedules and tracks analyses, flags results out of tolerance, and prompts tank dump/makeup events when needed. Built-in SPC charts help you spot trends before tanks drift out of control, so you keep your lines running at peak quality and prevent costly rework.
Can I try Lab Wizard before I buy?
Yes, every new customer gets a no-risk, fully functional evaluation environment. Explore all features without limitations for 30 days, run your own sample data, and confirm ROI before committing. When you’re ready, we will simply adjust your plan to meet your specific needs.
Which version of Lab Wizard should I choose: Cloud or Desktop?
Lab Wizard Cloud is our recommended offering for most customers. It runs in any modern browser, receives automatic updates, and includes built in real time monitoring and alerting capabilities.

Lab Wizard Desktop installs on a Windows PC/server and works entirely offline, ideal if you must keep all data behind your firewall. You can migrate from Desktop to Cloud at any time with a simple assisted migration process.

Lab Wizard Cloud

What do I need to run the Cloud version?
All you need is a modern web browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge, Safari) and an internet connection. We’ll provision a secure, dedicated tenant for your organization. Once you create your login, create accounts for your users, set up their roles, and you’re ready to go, no on-prem hardware required.
How is my data secured in the cloud?
Your data is encrypted both in transit and at rest, stored in a hardened environment with continuous backups and monitoring. We enforce strict access controls, audit logging of every change, and employ automated intrusion detection. You retain full ownership of your data and can export it at any time.
What real-time monitoring features are available?
Lab Wizard Cloud can ingest live signals from shop floor hardware such as SCADA, PLC, IoT sensors, etc. Our rectifier monitoring solution captures current anomalies (loose cable, bad connection, burn, over/under-plating) and sends alerts via email and/or in-platform notifications. Reach out to us to discuss advanced needs such as custom anomaly detection and AI driven insights.

Lab Wizard Desktop

What are the system requirements for the Desktop version?

The system requirements include:

  • Windows 10 or newer (64-bit)
  • 8 GB RAM (16 GB recommended)
  • Intel i5 or equivalent CPU
  • 500 GB SSD (or larger)
  • 1920×1080 display (or higher)
  • Local network access for database backups; internet connection recommended for updates
Can Desktop run without internet access?
Yes. Lab Wizard Desktop operates entirely on your local network and does not require internet. To use our Remote Console, simply connect it to the same LAN as the Desktop server, no external network exposure is needed.
How do I migrate from Desktop to Cloud?
Migration is included in your subscription. Reach out to

support@lab-wizard.com to schedule a migration plan. Typical downtime is under two hours: we’ll assist you through this process, importing your data into your Cloud tenant, and providing guidelines on how you can validate all your data before switching to the Cloud.

Monitoring & Alerts

How do I set up rectifier monitoring and alerts?
Reach out to our team at

support@lab-wizard.com, it helps to be ready with information such as your floor layout, rectifier information, and number of connections so we can help come up with the right plan of action to deploy the monitoring hardware. Alerts are sent via email or in app. A drag-and-drop GUI for custom thresholds and future AI-based anomaly detection is coming soon.

What types of alerts can Lab Wizard send?

Alerts can be configured for SPC violations, tank conditions, or when sensor data breaches your defined alert limits.

Lab Wizard supports:

  • In-app notifications colored actionable on-screen boxes
  • Email alerts to any address

Data & Reporting

How do I generate SPC and control charts?
Both Cloud and Desktop include a dedicated SPC module. Select your bath or analyte, choose your date range and control limits, and Lab Wizard draws control and Cpk/Ppk charts automatically.
Can I get audit-ready history reports on demand?
Yes. Every event is timestamped and stored with traceable information about each event. With simplicity you can generate and export specific data sets defined by simple filters.

Integrations & API

Does Lab Wizard integrate with ERP or MES systems?
While we don’t ship pre-built connectors, Lab Wizard Cloud will expose a RESTful API for all core entities (tanks, analyses, alerts, history). Our team can build custom integrations or provide API documentation so your IT team can pull data into any ERP/MES/LIMS.
How can I pull my chemistry data into another system?
Lab Wizard Cloud will provide API endpoints to query bath readings, maintenance events, and SPC results. For simpler needs, you can also manually export CSV data.

Support & Training

Where can I find documentation and user guides?
Our Cloud UI includes context sensitive help panels built directly into associated pages. For Desktop, user manuals and step by step tutorials are available on our website at /lab-wizard-desktop. Release notes and feature videos are also published regularly.
How do I get help or report a bug?
Email

support@lab-wizard.com and we respond with information and/or timelines about your request.

How do I submit a feature request?
We’d love to hear your ideas! Email us at

features@lab-wizard.com with your request, and we’ll log it in our system. While we review every submission, popular requests typically move up in our development queue. We may not build every suggestion, but we carefully consider all feedback when planning new features.

NOTE: Active development including all new features are taking place in Lab Wizard Cloud, not Desktop.

Lab Wizard Cloud captures every record with a timestamp and user ID. You can generate audit-ready reports showing full station history, and SPC charts in the format NADCAP auditors require.
Can I demonstrate traceability for every chemical adjustment?
Yes, every automated or manual adjustment is logged. Filter by tank, process, station, or event and export detailed logs to prove complete traceability for internal or external audits.
Does Lab Wizard help me meet ISO/AS requirements?
Lab Wizard’s SPC, control-charting and report templates align with ISO 9001 and AS9100 quality management standards, making it easy to demonstrate compliance with your QMS clauses.
How do I validate Lab Wizard for a regulated environment?
Lab Wizard maintains a complete, timestamped audit trail of every event, so you have all the raw data you need to build your own validation protocol (IQ/OQ/PQ). While we don’t ship a one-size-fits-all validation package, our comprehensive logging and export features make it straightforward to demonstrate compliance. If you have specific regulatory requirements, we can provide a quote to develop a custom utility that streamlines your compliance workflow.
